Description

A study of the nature and process of reading, instructional procedures for developing reading skills (phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency,vocabulary/spelling and comprehension). This course also has a focus on reading intervention models, speech, language and writing development and curriculum materials. Field work required: Students concurrently enroll in EDU 396.

Candidates in Wisconsin applying for an initial teaching license in grades Kindergarten through 5 (obtained through WLC’s Elementary-Middle Education program) or special education are required to take and pass the Foundations of Reading test, a test of reading instruction knowledge and skills administered by the Evaluation Systems group of Pearson. Upon completion of this course, students will sign up for the test per directions from their instructor.
