An introduction to the genetic, molecular, and cellular mechanisms that direct the development of multicellular organisms. Topics include: gametogenesis, fertilization, gastrulation, organogenesis, sex determination, developmental gene regulation, and teraology. The scientific, ethical and political issues surrounding assisted reproductive technology, cloning, and stem cell technology will also be considered. 3 lec. Prereq: BIO 201 and BIO 202.
